In October, Republic Services/Allied Waste will begin to provide Winchester residents with automated residential solid waste pickup. Automated service uses trucks with mechanical arms that lift the container and deposit trash or recycling into a compacting truck. The new 95 gallon wheeled trash carts were delivered during September. If the standard 95-gallon trash container is too large for your household, residents may call to request a 65-gallon trash container. Similarly, if the recycle cart is too small, upgrade your recycle to a 95 gallon cart for FREE!

The first day of collection with the new carts will be on Thursday, October 6. Here are a few tips for your cart.

Place the container at least three feet from any tree, pole, hydrant, mailbox, etc. and at least five feet away from any cars parked in the street so the automated arm can reach your container.

Place containers one foot from the curb or edge of the street.  Remember to place the arrows on the lid of the cart toward the street and the handle toward the house.

Do not overload the container or lean anything against the cart. If the lid is not closed, it will be subjected to wind and nuisance animals.

Please place the containers at the curb prior to 7 a.m. on pickup day.

Yard waste may not be placed in the container. State law prohibits yard waste, which is compostable, from being mixed with garbage or recycling.

Solid Waste items must be placed curbside by 7 AM on pick up day, but not more than 24 hours before.  Cans and other containers must be brought back in within 24 hours.

The cost for standard services for October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012 is $18.05 per month (Senior Citizens Rate - $16.25 per month) billed quarterly.

APPLIANCE PICKUP:  Appliances will be picked up on an "On Call" basis at an additional charge.  To order an appliance pickup please call Customer Care Center at 636-947-5959.

ONCE A WEEK CURBSIDE YARD WASTE PICK-UP:  Yard waste consists of grass clippings, leaves, tree limbs and branches, household or yard plants and Christmas trees.   Yard waste may be placed in compost bags designed for yard waste collection or it may be placed loosely in 32 gallon trash cans  clearly labeled as yard waste, NOT to exceed 60 pounds.  Yard waste in plastic bags will not be collected. 
 
HOLIDAYS:  New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day are observed holidays and collections will not be made on these days.  If a holiday falls on or before a service day, pick up will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week.
