City of Winchester, MO - Residents - Animal Regulations

ALL DOGS AND CATS ARE REQUIRED TO BE ON A LEASH OR CONFINED AT ALL TIMES. 

On August 10th, 2011,  the Board of Aldermen unanimously approved the repeal of the ordinance requiring City pet tags from Winchester Municipal Code. However, according to county ordinance (Municipal Code 205.020), dogs and cats in Winchester are still required to be vaccinated against rabies.  St. Louis County Code requires the animal to be vaccinated by a licensed veterinarian.

NOTICE:  It shall be unlawful for the owner of any dog or cat, whether vaccinated or not, to permit such dog or cat to run at large or to go off the premises of the owner unless such dog or cat is under restraint.  "At large" and "restraint" applies to cats as well as dogs.  (Municipal Code Section 205.190.)

REMINDER:  There is a maximum of no more than two dogs and no more than two cats (a grand total of four pets) allowed per household/property address.

RABIES CONTROL SERVICES are covered by St. Louis County Animal Control.  They can be contacted during business hours (8:00 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday and 8:00 AM - 12:00 Noon, Saturday) at 314/726-6655.  For after hours CONFINED PICKUPS, VICIOUS AND BITE CASES, contact County Police Information at 314/889-2341.

All St. Louis County Animal Control Units are painted blue and clearly identified with signs.  These units bear St. Louis County license numbers.  They should not be confused with Humane Society, municipal or private animal control vehicles.
